Purchased a very nice Acer Aspire E3 112 a week or two ago, and immediately decided to dual-boot Ubuntu.
Well, what a performance!
Not being a novice at installing Ubuntu on UEFI Windows 8 machines, I thought it should be a doddle!
I tried every which way to install – the OS files installed in the partition well enough, but the machine didn’t acknowledge that there was an Ubuntu install there at all.
This is how I solved it:
- Access the BIOS and go to the Security tab
- Create a Supervisor Password – this allows access to the Secure Boot setup
- Add the Ubuntu option as a trusted Boot location
- Go to the Boot tab and set Ubuntu to the first Boot location.
